At WIS we are developing and teaching the IB curriculum throughout all grade levels. The PYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them.

It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom.The Goal of PYP Curriculum:. address students’ academic needs and their social and emotional well-being. encourage students to develop independence and to take responsibility for their own learning. support students’ effort to gain understanding of the world and to function effectively within it.

help student to establish personal values as a foundation on which international-mindedness will flourish.The PYP views student as being at the center of their learning. The leading pedagogical approach is guided inquiry, in which students engage in their learning in a way that sees them actively constructing meaning. The PYP is concept-driven, asking students to understand big ideas, rather than isolated facts. There is a focus on developing positive dispositions, such as respect, enthusiasm and responsibility. Students are taught essential skills that will empower them to be independent and proactive.

There is a large focus on developing research, communication, social, self-management and thinking skills. Critical thinking and problem solving are important aspects of the program. Students will work independently, but they are also often asked to work successfully in collaboration with other students.

There is a very significant emphasis placed on how students learn, as well as what they learn. In order to implement the PYP, schools undergo regularly rigorous authorization processes.Wahaha International School is a Candidate School. for the PYP and MYP. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Wahaha International School believes is important for our students.Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). The (PYP) is a curriculum framework which centers around a series of transdisciplinary themes that address human commonalities.The SBS (POI) was written by the faculty of Sunnybrook School. It reflects our philosphy, our knowledge and experience as educators, and the requirements of the Ministry of Education.

It is a powerful learning document which we review and revise annually, keeping it relevant, challenging and engaging for our students.Our POI helps students better understand themselves and their world through the disciplines of science, history, geography and social studies, as well as applications of language arts, math and art, and other areas of study. The pedagogy draws on contemporary methods, with a strong emphasis on constructivist learning and inquiry-based approaches.The IB curriculum framework is designed around powerful concepts such as change, responsibility and perspective. The units of inquiry combine concepts with content knowledge in powerful central ideas that guide student inquiry.Our goal is for our students to construct their own meaning as they explore concepts, build knowledge and develop skills.
